Yaya Toure wants more City silverware
June 7, 2017 9:00 amManchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has set his sights on winning more trophies after signing a new one-year deal at the club.
The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed his spell in Manchester after joining from Barcelona in the summer of 2010.
He has helped the Citizens to win five major domestic trophies, including two Premier League titles, but his future had been unclear.
Toure’s contract was set to expire in the summer and he endured a turbulent campaign last season. He was frozen out of the team for a time after a row between his agent and manager Pep Guardiola, but still made 31 appearances and scored seven goals.
With an eighth campaign now on the horizon, Toure is looking to secure more trophies and City are priced at 3.00 to win the Premier League next season.
Toure told City’s official website: “I’m delighted. I told myself the journey at City is not done and when I received a call from [director of football] Txiki Begiristain and talked to the manager, I was very delighted.
“When I was first coming here I was trying to be part of a new story, of something special at this club. I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets.
“Of course I want to win trophies, that is very important to me. I want to enjoy it at this age still and remaining here is a massive, massive thing. It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in. Our mentality is always to win week in, week out and I’m delighted with the fans as well.”
